T-Shirt designs are due Friday, April 5th! Please send your designs to our email. Make sure to follow the guidelines listed in the post below. Also, please have the high resolution (300 pixels/in) file ready if your submission wins. Remember, winning design receives $100!

We upped the prize this year for our tournament shirt design. Winning design will receive $100! Please make sure your design includes:

(1) "UC Davis" or "University of California Davis"
(2) "Spring Open 2013" or "Spring 2013 Open"
(3) Must be no more than 3 colors including the shirt color
(Optional) Can have the date April 27-28

The Davis Spring Open will be held April 27-28. We hope to see lots of people!!! During spring quarter we will also be changing practice times to Tues 8-11PM, Thurs 7-11PM, Friday 7-10PM.

 

There will be no practice Friday due to the SoCal trip and no practice monday because of the holiday.

 

Tonight's practice will be from 8-11 instead of 7-10! Also, if you purchased uniforms please start bringing money to practice. Good luck with midterms!

 

Tomorrow's practice will be held from 8-11pm instead of the usual 7-10pm. Also everyone who is going to the dual meet this saturday please wear UC Davis shirt. We will meet at 11:45 am at HICKEY GYM.

Great news! We will now be UPPING THE PRIZE MONEY for A flights to $200/person for 1st place, $100/person for 2nd place. Also, ALL 1st Place Winner (from flights B to D) will be awarded an ITEM PRIZE in addition to a trophy, courtesy of Synergy Badminton and Yonex.

Also, group discounts will be $18 for first event, $12 for any afterward. Please use the template to the right. Groups must have at least 10 members. Please send in the group entry by October 19th or else your group risks getting placed against each other in the first round.

There is only one month of summer vacation left, but we have a few announcements.

(1). The first practice begins October 1st, 9:00PM! If you received a flier from us at the ARC, there was a typo regarding Friday's time. Please refer to the information on our site.
(2). Unfortunately due to increasing costs of birdies, we must raise our membership fees to $40/qtr or $100/year. There is still a $5 drop-in fee for those uncertain if they want to become members.
(3). Lastly, we have finalized our Fall Open tournament date: October 27 - 28.

Tournament Shirt Design Contest: We are accepting design submissions for our Spring Open 2012 tournament from now until April 11! Shirt designs must contain:

If you didn't hear from club members, the team traveled to LA last weekend and competed against some of the universities in the region (including UCLA, UCSD, and USC). The UC Davis Badminton Club would like to thank UCLA for organizing the event and having us at the meet. It was a memorable experience for everyone who participated. Congratulations to everyone!

We will not have practice tomorrow night (January 20th). We apologize for not being able to hold many Friday practice, but we hopefully will try to have our first Friday practice next week!

First practice of the quarter will be tonight at 9PM! We are going to experiment having an actual "practice", which includes conditioning and drills for the first hour of practice. Please come prepared if you would like to take part. If you are not interested, some courts will still be available for recreational uses. Hope to see you all there!

Our current draws are still subject to changes (and full of typos). If you do not see your entry on this list, it does NOT mean we have dropped you from particular events. With only a few of us managing so many entries, we may have misplaced you during entry changes and corrections. For clarification, please email us ASAP. We are trying our best to make this tournament efficient and a good experience for all the participants and hope you understand.

Here are some reminders about the tournament.

Dates: Saturday, October 22nd (Singles and Mixed); Sunday, October 23rd (Doubles)
Location: The Pavilion at the University of California, Davis
Events: Flights A, B, C, D for Men and Women Singles, Doubles, & Mixed.
Entries: $20 for first event, $15 for each additional event.
Times: Warm-up starts at 8am. First games for both days will be called at 9am.

Prizes: A M/W Singles 1st - $100; A M/W Singles 2nd - $50
A M/W Doubles/Mixed 1st - $200 per team; A M/W Doubles/Mixed 2nd - $100 per team
Trophies will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place in B,C,D flights and Consolation in all Flights.
*Please note that the cash prizes will be awarded if there are at least 8 teams in the events. If there are less than 8 teams then the cash prize amount will be determined later. If there is a large number of A entries, there will be an increase in cash prizes.

Entry Rules:
(1) Rally scoring format for all events, 3x21. ALL CONSOLATION matches are one set to 21. Consolation semi-finals and beyond are formatted 3x21. Scoring sheets will be provided.
(2) When the leading score reaches 11 points, players have a 1 minute interval. There will be a 2 minute interval between each set. In the third set, players may choose to change ends when the leading score reaches 11 points. Coaching is allowed during intervals only.
(3) Players will be allowed to play a maximum of 3 events on Saturday and 2 events on Sunday. 2 flights maximum per event.
(4) No jumping flights. Meaning, if you are playing two flights with one partner (ie. A/B or B/C) and you cannot play in a different flight in another event (ie. B/C or C/D).
(5) Teams must play in the flight of the higher ranked player. Multiple partners are NOT allowed.
(6) A strict five minute default rule will be enforced. Players who are defaulted will be disqualified from the tournament for the event they defaulted from.
(7) Participants will not be allowed to start their first match until all fees are paid.
(8) All participants will need to sign a waiver before playing. Waivers will be available on our website and on tournament days at the registration desk. (Participants under 18 will need a parent/guardian signature.)


Group Entries: Discount rates are $18 first event, $12 for any afterwards.

*Changes may be made at anytime at the tournament director’s discretion and are final.

To speed up registration process, please print and sign this waiver if you are not a UC student (this includes Cal, UCSC, UCSD, etc.). All participants are required to sign a waiver prior to playing.

If you would like to make any changes to your entries, please also email us ASAP. The faster you tell us, the more likely we can change your entries. Draws will not be posted until the Friday even prior to the event.
